Examples of past opportunities

Development

The Development Department supports the aims of the Museum by raising funds and promoting the Museum’s mission. Responsibilities include help with general office duties, preparation of promotional materials and mailings, tracking of membership and donor attendance and giving, donor correspondence, filing, paperwork, and other administrative work in support of the Development Department. Work-Study students may be asked to assist at on site and off site Museum events, as needed.

Collections and Exhibitions

The Collections and Exhibitions Department inventories and reviews the Museum’s extensive permanent collection which includes over 5,000 pieces of art by Eric Carle on long-term loan to the museum, as well as over 7,000 works by more than 200 picture book illustrators. Work-Study students, under the supervision of the collection’s manager & registrar, work with the collections team to assist in performing a thorough inventory of the collection, ensuring that it is accurately and efficiently organized. They also review, consolidate, and update the database as needed. Work-Study students are trained in how to handle art and will learn standard museum practices in collections stewardship. They may also provide registrarial support for exhibitions.

Art Studio

The Art Studio Work-Study student helps maintain and facilitate drop-in art projects with museum guests of all ages. Responsibilities include welcoming guests to the Art Studio space, preparing art materials, and maintaining a clean, safe space. Work Study students will report to the Art Educators and work as a team to support the Art Studio values: to provide a highly accessible space, to celebrate materials through open-ended exploration, to promote collaboration, and pursue an environmentally sustainable practice.
