Lecture Title: For the Love of a Dog

For The Carle’s 13th annual Barbara Elleman Research Library (BERL) lecture, Barbara McClintock will talk about how she illustrated Tomie dePaola’s last complete manuscript about his beloved dog Brontë, and fell head over heels in love with them both.

In Where Are You, Brontë?, children’s book legend Tomie dePaola tells the emotional and deeply personal story about overcoming his grief after the loss of his beloved dog, Brönte. This touching story about love, loss, and remembrance in the wake of losing a beloved pet has received four starred reviews and described as “a gentle delight, simultaneously honoring both the dog dePaola lost and the artist we lost in turn (Kirkus Reviews).”
