Love without Bounds: An IntersectionAllies Book about Families celebrates the people we love and who love us. Written by three celebrated women of color sociologists, Love without Bounds is a joyful, heartwarming celebration of family in all its forms: multicultural families; LGBTQ+ families; adoptive families; single-parent and blended families; transnational families; families impacted by incarceration, detention, and deportation; chosen families; military families; and more. By focusing on the choices families make to persistently love and care for one another in the face of inequality and inequity, Love without Bounds is a necessary resource to make sure all kids feel seen and loved for who they are in community with each other. Emphasizing that love is what makes a family a family, Love without Bounds asks that we respect other people’s families as much as we do our own.

Author Carolyn Choi

Carolyn Choi

Dr. Carolyn Choi uses the pronouns she/hers and is currently the Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Center for Korean Studies at UCLA. Carolyn came to research from a community organizing background, where she was first exposed to intersectional issues through working with migrant women communities in Los Angeles’ Koreatown. Later on, she joined the doctoral program in sociology at the University of Southern California, researching issues of transnational Asia, migration, race, and globalization.

LaToya Council is an Assistant Professor of Sociology and Africana Studies at Lehigh University. Her research interests are race, gender, and class; work and family; health and wellness.

Chelsea Johnson

Chelsea Johnson is a sociologist and Staff Researcher at LinkedIn. Her applied research work in tech focuses on how to design for trust and equity online, and her academic work explores the relationships between beauty, race, gender, and politics.
